PocketMage OS

PocketMage OS is the base operating system for the PocketMage device (I know, creative name, right?) This OS serves as the backbone of the PocketMage’s software. It includes a full-fledged filesystem, drivers for all of the PocketMage’s on-board peripherals, various built-in apps, and a system for installing 3rd party applications.

PocketMage OS does not collect your data.
PocketMage OS does not connect to the internet without you explicitly telling it to.
PocketMage OS does not try to grab or keep your attention.

PocketMage OS exists to be helpful not distracting.

PocketMage’s Apps

HOME: The Home screen acts as the central dashboard for PocketMage. It displays the currently installed apps and provides quick access to frequently used functions. From here, you can jump into recently opened files, launch other apps, or execute simple commands.

TXT: The TXT app is a simple but capable text editor and reader. It loads plain .txt files directly from the SD card, formats them for the E Ink screen, and supports navigation by pages or lines. Editing mode allows you to type and make changes using the device’s keyboard input, with word wrapping optimized for readability. The TXT app also has Markdown support, allowing viewing and editing Markdown .txt files.

FILEWIZ: FileWiz is the file manager for the PocketMage. It provides an organized way to browse through directories on the SD card, view file details such as size and modified date, and perform operations like renaming, copying, moving, or deleting. This app serves as a basic way to manage data on the device, ensuring that you can maintain order in your library of notes, documents, and other files directly from the PocketMage itself.

LOADER: The LOADER app allows users to install 3rd party applications, such as those downloaded via the bazaar. This app provides a very simple interface for assigning apps to the 4 different app slots available on the PocketMage. Selecting and installing apps is simple.

USB_APP: The USB app handles the PocketMage’s connectivity over USB. When opened, it allows the device to appear to a computer as a removable storage drive. This is useful for transferring files onto the PocketMage without removing the SD card, especially application files that you plan to install.

BT: The Bluetooth app is useless at this point, but will facilitate Bluetooth connections to things like keyboards in the future.

SETTINGS: The Settings app centralizes configuration of the system. You can adjust display brightness for the OLED, change CPU clock speeds to balance performance and battery life, set the auto-sleep timeout, and toggle other stored preferences. All changes are saved persistently using onboard storage so they remain intact across restarts.

TASKS: The Tasks app is a straightforward to-do list manager. It allows you to create new tasks, mark them as completed, and organize them into a running list. Its design is minimal, focused on reducing clutter while giving you a persistent way to track what needs doing. Tasks are saved in storage, so they remain available even after powering down, making this a reliable tool for lightweight task management.

CALENDAR: The Calendar app provides a date-based view for planning and navigation. It uses the real-time clock to show accurate days and months and lets you move forward or backward to check dates. You can attach notes or simple events to specific days. The emphasis is on quick reference and lightweight planning rather than heavy calendar features.

JOURNAL: The Journal app is designed for recording personal notes with timestamps. Each entry is saved with the date and time automatically provided by the RTC, allowing you to build a chronological log of thoughts, progress, or events. The interface supports creating new entries and reviewing older ones by scrolling through your history. It is intended as a durable, distraction-free way to capture daily writing directly on the device.
